Short answer: The cheapest seats are in the government nursing colleges in Assam, and you reach them through the SSUHS entrance exam. Private colleges cost more, and their fees vary a lot, so compare the full course cost and check approval before you pay anything.
Every admission season, the first thing families ask us at Pranav Paramedical & Nursing College is about money, and that’s a fair question. If you’re searching for low-fee nursing colleges in Assam, here’s the catch: the fee a website shows and what you actually pay over the whole course are often two different numbers. This guide covers what’s realistic, where to look, and how admission works.
Hospitals, medical colleges, and health centres across the state keep hiring, and studying close to home saves real money on rent and travel. For students exploring nursing courses after 12th in Assam, there are four routes: ANM, GNM, BSc Nursing and, for working GNM nurses, Post Basic BSc Nursing.
Fee data is messy. Different sources quote different numbers for the same college, and some show one year while others show the full course. Use the figures below as ballparks and confirm them with the college.
Course | Duration | Basic eligibility | Indicative total cost |
BSc Nursing | 4 years | 10+2 Science (PCB) | Govt: about ₹1–2.5 lakh; private: about ₹3.5–7 lakh |
GNM | 3 years + internship | 10+2 with English | Wide range, from about ₹1.3 lakh to ₹4+ lakh |
ANM | 2 years | 10+2 | Usually the lowest |
Government colleges charge roughly ₹1–2.5 lakh for the four years, while private ones run about ₹3.5–7 lakh. Among BSc nursing fees in Assam at universities, Assam Kaziranga University publishes ₹80,000 per semester in tuition, plus a one-time ₹25,000 admission fee and ₹10,000 administrative fee, with merit scholarships on tuition.
Don’t assume a Guwahati address means cheap. Several Guwahati institutes show total BSc fees above ₹6 lakh.
GNM nursing fees in Assam swing widely. NEPNI School of Nursing in Guwahati is listed at about ₹1.33 lakh, while some private institutes show ₹4 lakh or more for the three years.
If you want the shortest and cheapest route into healthcare, look at ANM nursing colleges in Assam. Admission rules depend on the exam notified by the government or the institution, so check the latest notice.
Seats are scarce. Assam has five government BSc Nursing colleges with 345 seats in total, attached to medical colleges in places like Dibrugarh, Silchar, Jorhat and Kokrajhar. Two conditions matter. A Permanent Resident Certificate is mandatory, and in the 2026 cycle, male candidates were not eligible for government nursing institutes in Assam. Read the current notification before you plan around this.
This is a lesser-known option. The college is run by Indian Oil with CSR funding and has 30 BSc seats, open to female candidates only, and students must stay in its hostel.
The recognised list includes 24 private BSc Nursing colleges. Among private nursing colleges in Assam, here are a few examples with the fees they’re listed at:
College | City | Course | Fee as listed |
Asian Institute of Nursing Education | Guwahati | BSc | about ₹81,920 total |
Apollo College of Nursing | Guwahati | BSc | about ₹1.8 lakh total |
Assam Kaziranga University | Jorhat | BSc | ₹80,000 per semester + one-time fees |
NEPNI School of Nursing | Guwahati | GNM | about ₹1.33 lakh |
That ₹81,920 figure looks unusually low for four years, so ask for the complete fee, including hostel and exam charges, in writing. That’s the kind of check that separates truly affordable nursing colleges in Assam from cheap-looking ones.
Guwahati has the most options, but compare the total yearly cost for nursing colleges in Guwahati, since rent and food add up. For low-cost BSc nursing colleges in Assam, smaller towns can win on the all-in price, and the cheapest nursing colleges in Assam are usually the government ones.
A low fee means nothing if the course isn’t recognised. Ask to see the approval letter for your exact course and session.
Walk away if a college wants a big payment before showing documents, has no hospital tie-up for clinical training, or changes the fee after your first instalment.
BSc nursing eligibility in Assam means 10+2 Science with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English. A minimum of about 45% is commonly mentioned, with 40% for SC/ST candidates, and the 2026 notice sets an age range of 17 to 24 as of 31 December 2026.
For GNM, candidates need 10+2 with English and at least 40%, with science preferred, and a minimum age of 17.
The Assam nursing entrance exam is run by SSUHS. For nursing admission in Assam 2026, the BSc test was held on 7 June 2026 and covered Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English. The GNM test was set for 28 June 2026 and was based on the Class 10 level. Both cycles are closed now. If you’re aiming for the next session, start watching the SSUHS notifications from March, since the 2026 BSc form opened on 20 March.
Keep your marksheets, transfer certificate, caste and PRC certificates, photographs, ID proof, and medical fitness certificate ready. For GNM colleges in Assam, admission also follows the GNM entrance exam, so check each college’s notice.
If you’re open to the wider Northeast, Pranav Paramedical & Nursing College in Damdamia, Lembucherra, Agartala offers B.Sc Nursing and GNM. It’s recognised by the Tripura Nursing Council and approved by the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Tripura. Our fee details are on the Fee and Terms page of our website.
Finding low-fee nursing colleges in Assam takes some homework: compare total costs, verify INC and state council approval, and get every fee in writing. If you have questions about courses or admission, the team at Pranav Paramedical & Nursing College is happy to help.
Government nursing colleges have the lowest fees, but seats are limited, and entry is through the SSUHS exam.
Roughly ₹1–2.5 lakh in government colleges and ₹3.5–7 lakh in private ones for the full course. Confirm with the college.
Government seats need the SSUHS exam. Some private and institution-run colleges have their own routes, so check each notice.
Many are, if they’re properly approved and give real hospital training.
BSc Nursing offers more room for higher studies. GNM is shorter and often cheaper.
